SRGC – APRIL 2006

I understand that the weather held out at Empire Ranch last month. By the way, all harassment for the Randolphs not being there should be aimed at Bud. He insisted a big green blob on Doppler was heading our way but it must have turned. We will definitely be at The Ridge. In fact, I have very high hopes that all this rain will go away VERY SOON! All the courses are soggy and need to dry out. Maybe if we all say that old poem together someone will listen…. “Rain, rain go away. Come again another day….”

The April 20th tournament is at The Ridge. The format is Low Net and it’s the NCGA Associate Club Champion Qualifier (4 person team) the two lowest 2-person teams qualify. To play in the Qualifier there is an additional $5 entry fee. The SRGC pays the green fees at the sectional site for the 4-person team. Sign-ups for The Ridge must be to Tom Baker by this Friday, April 14. According to the list on the web site there is still room to sign up.

We’ve had a lot of people join or re-join the club recently. Thank you everyone that has recommended the club to your friends! Welcome to everyone that has joined us this year! The list so far is:

Club Champion Points – Tom is using the points calculator that the pros use to determine our Club champion. Our leader so far is Jeff Silver with 43,672 points. I don’t think I understand how it works but it will be fun to watch how it all plays out over the season.

From my Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook for Golfers Calendar

How to Get a Cart Out of a Sand Trap

  1. Check that the rear wheels are on the ground.
  2. Attempt to push the cart onto the ground to obtain more traction. The average golf cart weighs about 800 pounds, but two or three players should be able to push it.
  3. Create traction if you cannot get it onto solid ground. Pile sand or small stones around the wheel to increase traction, or place jackets and other clothing under the rear wheels. An empty, collapsible golf bag may also work.
  4. Flag down a passing cart and ask for a tow.
  5. Tow the cart. Secure a long, sturdy rope or chain to a tow hook on the chassis in the rear of the cart. Secure the other end of the rope to the rear of another cart, on the chassis. Use slow, steady acceleration to tow the cart until it has become dislodged and can be driven.
  6. (from Margie) Buy everyone involved drinks and dinner in an attempt to bribe them from EVER speaking of this again!

See you all at The Ridge!!
