We started the
year with a great turnout at Castle Oaks in February. We had 33 players!
I believe it was the first time at this course that we didn’t play “winter
rules.” Since it had been 2 weeks with no rain we even got to take the carts
OFF the cart path! It was wonderful to see everyone – I hope we continue having
such enthusiastic participation.
March tournament
is to be at Empire Ranch in Folsom on Thursday, March 16th. I
hope everyone has signed up. This will be our club NCGA qualifier as
well as a regular low net competition. The qualifier is for 2-person teams
(4-ball). There is a $5 per person fee if you wish to qualify and please NAME
your partner.
If
a groundhog, fox, or squirrel steals your ball as it sits on the fairway, you
may replace the ball at the original spot without any penalty (Rule 18-1).
However, a ball moved by wind or water must be played where it end up. A snake
that moves your ball is considered on outside agency, like a groundhog or
squirrel, but a dead snake is a loose impediment and may be moved if it is
blocking your path. Make sure the snake is actually dead. If you are not sure,
you can take a free drop.
When a ball has been moved by an
animal and it is not clear where its original position was, the player may
replace his ball without penalty in an area that provides neither an advantage
nor a disadvantage by agreement with playing partners (Decision 18-1/5).

In case you
didn’t notice at the Castle Oaks tournament – the club now owns a laptop
computer. This means that we get the results immediately! It’s got a really
slick program that automatically adjusts your score (not that any of us EVER
need to do that!) BUT it knows how just in case! Tom will bring SRGC scrip to
each tournament so winners will get their winnings before heading home.
