SRGC Newsletter - March 2007
We seemed to have planned our February tournament PERFECTLY! It started raining the next Thursday and hasn’t stopped. We had an awesome turnout with 40 players at Empire Ranch. The results can be found on the web site. Congratulations to all our winners!!!
The next tournament will be held at Castle Oaks in Ione on March 15th. The format will be Low-net. It will also be the 4-person team Associate Club Qualifier. Please be sure and let Tom Baker know that you would like to participate and include an extra $5 with your entry form. You can find information regarding the Qualifier on the web site. If you are one of the qualifiers the SRGC will pay fees for the sectional qualifier.
Remember to keep up the Pace of Play at the tournaments. With 40 people it can make for a very long day. We did pretty well at Empire last month. Tom is asking that as each group finishes that you turn in the scorecards BEFORE going to your car. This helps him to get the scores inputted quickly and we get the results immediately! (Americans love instant gratification!!!). Also write your finishing time on the scorecards.
Welcome to all the new members – we love seeing all the new faces!!

Judee D. will miss a tournament or two because she will be leaving for Spain (if I remember right) very soon!
This month I will give you a tidbit from “Astonishing but True Golf Facts” by Allan Zullo
When her tee shot at the par-3 13th hole of the 1993 NCAA Women’s Championship splashed into the shallows of a lake, Holly Reynolds opted to play the ball where it lay. Holly’s underwater whack nudged not only her ball up onto the bank but also a four-inch sunfish. After guiding the gaping guppy back into the lake, Holly got a sinking feeling she had committed an infraction. But USGA officials let the compassionate collegian off the hook because the rule book states only dead critters are considered “loose impediments” – obstacles that can’t be moved.
I’m back with a question…I thought you could move “loose impediments” after all, they are loose. I wonder if this is an old rule. I just checked and a loose impediment may be moved (rule 23) but I wonder if the fish could be called an “outside agency”? If so by today’s rules it seems to me that Holly would need to replace her ball and hit again.
Can I have a ruling from the “rule guys” of our group?
See you all soon at Castle Oaks!!! Don’t forget to send in your entry forms – it’s only 2 weeks away!!!
