SRGC - April 2007
Wow it’s already APRIL! What’s with that!!! I hope everyone is getting in a lot of golf time during this beautiful springtime.
Last month’s tournament at Castle Oaks was wonderful! The only real problem was that there were quite a few no-shows! Please if you are unable to make it to the tournament let Tom Baker know AS SOON as you figure it out. Castle Oaks was very accommodating and did not charge us for those people but not every course is so agreeable. No-shows at the last minute not only potentially forfeit their money but also make it really difficult to juggle foursomes at the golf course. Quite often the players are matched up by handicap.
It is VERY difficult, if not impossible, to rearrange things at the last minute.
This month we are playing at Turkey Creek. This will be the Associate Club 4-ball Qualifier. The
2 low net scores in the field qualify. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do.
Tom is anxiously awaiting all those entrance forms!

from “Astonishing but True Golf Facts” by Allan Zullo
Chicago-area golfers were wise not to bother duffer Vincent Gebhardi, otherwise known as Machine gun Jack McGurn. He was a mob hit man who helped gun down seven of Al Capone’s henchmen in the famous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. He was also a pro golfer who was once arrested on the 7th hole at the Olympia Fields Country Club during the 1933 Western Open. Police let him finish his round, which included a murderous 11 on the 8th. His 83-86 missed the cut by 14 strokes.
