SRGC August 2007 Newsletter

Apple Mountain was the venue for our August tournament. We played the regular Low Net game but we also attempted to play Devil Ball. Tom provided each team with Titlist Pro-V 1 golf balls and then something happened that has NEVER happened with us before. We played Devil Ball and NOT ONE team returned with the ball! Apple Mountain must have been very hungry that day. One ball was lost on the very FIRST hit of the day! The longest a ball lasted was to the 6th hole. I told Tom that maybe we should have used Top Flight X-outs…they would probably have lasted longer!

The next time we play Devil Ball will be at Pacific Grove, hopefully we’ll do a better job there.

We had 3 players in the Associate Club Net Quailfier at Haggin Oaks. Al Edwards, Al Durst and Kathy Donnell.  The championship round will be played at Poppy Hills on Sept. 24-25. Kathy Donnell has qualified for the championship tournament despite playing in over 100-degree weather. She shot a 41 on the front and on the back 9 she started to get too hot but managed to pull it together and she finished up with a net 67. CONGRATULATIONS KATHY!

The Monterey Tournaments are fast approaching. Ideally everyone that wanted to play has already signed up. Check with Tom Baker to see if there are any openings or last minute cancellations. We will play Poppy Hills on Thursday Sept.27th at 12:00 PM the format is Low Net. Then on Friday Sept 28th we’ll play Pacific Grove starting at 9:58 AM, formats to be Low Net and Devil Ball.

My son bought a new book called “Murphy’s Laws of Golf” by Henry Beard. The following is an excerpt from it.

Murphy’s First Principals

Anything that can go right

will go way, way right.

Anything that can go wrong

will wait to go wrong until after you leave the practice tee.

All current problems can be traced

to previous solutions.

No matter how bad you are playing

you can always play worse.

If you address the ball for more than 20 seconds,

it’s not a waggle – it’s a seizure.

It’s often necessary to hit a second drive

to really appreciate the first one.

Hit the do-over first.

HAPPY SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAY!!!
